An architecture that is open in many ways, spatially open towards the city in all directions, but also open through time, waiting to be completed by the interventions of a wide creative community.
The activities are distributed following a vertical public-private programmatic gradient from those with general access, to those reserved for specific events. Thanks to this programmatic gradient the Museum can be literally open at the ground floor towards the city.
Designed as the superimposition of three distinct volumes the Museum expands in generous terraces on two levels directly accessible by an external flight of stairs that will offer to the city an outdoor museum - and multiple opportunities of exchanges between the museum and its context.
The Museum is a simple infrastructure to be completed and expanded through the insertions of a multiplicity of “folies” - architectural pavilions that populate the three layers of the building, temporary or permanent, hosting some of the required program. These small architectures are to be designed through a call for proposal, to open the design process to the Finnish design community.
